Bon Jovi Gives Back to Newark

I thought it would be nice to see someone famous doing some positive things for Newar and who can bring some revenue into Newark. I am glad to see him show his respects to his home State, New Jersey. This is not only about Bon Jovi but about the new prudential center in Newark. It is known now that the N.J. Devils will be moving into this arena some time in the near future. I feel that this is a good thing for Newark it will bring some much needed revenue and jobs to the city and hopefully to the public education systems as well. I feel that with the help of Bon Jovi and some other well known celebrities having concerts and events in the prudential center it will get the city of Newark's name out in the positive media light instead of the all this negative media coverage we see on the television.

It was neat to see Bon Jovi standing amongst the construction workers while speaking about giving to Newark. I looked into it a little and he actually was born in Perth Amboy and grew up in Sayreville, NJ. I had wondered if he grew up in Newark and was "giving back to the community" like we had spoken about in the schools during our visits this past week.

It gives me some relief when there are some famous figures out there taking action or at least giving attention to problems or needs in society and our surroundings rather than just focusing on the fame and glory. Alright Bon Jovi. Plus, I always liked his music too :)

I wasn't to sure if Jon was from Newark. I was going to look into it, but someone already beat me to the punch. I think it is awesome that people do not forget their roots and are willing to help out their community or in this case other struggling communities. In one of the High Schools we visited, some of their graduates have achieved fame and success and still return to their school to talk to and inspire the other students. I think inspiration and community based involvement can help not only inner city schools, but suburban as well.

I have a very interesting story to tell about celebrities returning or giving back to there community or schools they have attended. My old high school, which is in an suburban area, is where one Jack Nicholson graduated from with great interest in theater and acting. He later returned and donated money to the school to put towards the new construction of a theater.

On a side note he has been known to show up at the school on random on pop of visits. I actually got a chance to meet him and talk with him during one of our schools football practices. He wished us luck on the rest of the season. It was awesome to see that a huge Hollywood star like him still remembers where he comes from and tries to give back as well.

It is amazing that he takes the time out to visit his old school and donate funds. Although it's just speculation, I wonder if there was one particular teacher that furthered his interest in acting and theater...it just goes to show how much of an impact someone can have. Imagine if he had a miserable theater teacher, would he have been turned off from acting altogether?

The posting on the Bon Jovi concert and interview was really interesting. It is nice to see someone who succeeded come back and be a speaker to try to bring in funds and improvements for needed areas.
On a side note, after our class on politics and education, although the Prudential Center is nice, an improvement in the community, a place for more job opportunity and to attract more people, is it helping the community but at the same time not education? Are they exempt from taxes just as other places such as museums, libraries and hospitals?
